Comfortable Care for Developing Wisdom Teeth

Wisdom teeth are the last set of molars to develop, usually appearing in the late teens or early twenties. For some people, they come in without causing problems. For others, there may not be enough room for them to erupt properly, which can lead to discomfort, crowding, infection or damage to nearby teeth. At Oak Dental Place, we can monitor the development of wisdom teeth and help determine whether they can remain in place or if removal should be considered.

When Wisdom Teeth May Need Attention

Wisdom teeth do not always need to be removed, but they should be monitored as they develop. Teeth that are impacted, partially erupted or difficult to clean can sometimes increase the risk of pain, decay, gum inflammation or infection. Using a dental examination and imaging when needed, we can evaluate the position of your wisdom teeth and the surrounding structures. If removal is recommended, we will explain why, review your options and discuss what to expect before and after treatment.

What to Expect With Wisdom Tooth Treatment

Your appointment begins with an assessment of your teeth, gums and jaw. Dental X-rays may be taken to determine the position of the wisdom teeth and whether they are fully erupted, partially erupted or impacted beneath the gums.

If removal is appropriate, the treatment plan will depend on the position and complexity of the tooth. The area is carefully numbed, and we will review aftercare instructions to support a smooth recovery.
